Passage into the Kill Zone

Operational records (NARA Record Group 38) document the departure of USS Besugo (SS-321) from Fremantle, Australia, on December 24, 1944. This was the submarine’s third war patrol. Her destination was the South China Sea, a transit that required navigating the Lombok Strait.
